Hello fellow Circle Kers!
We have just started a fresh semester of college and our excitement levels are high. I want to encourage everyone to use this additional energy to help promote the wonderful work that we do at circle K, to go the extra mile, to reach out to that old member who thinks they are too busy to do circle K again this semester, to make the new member feel comfortable among strangers, to send that extra email to your list-serve in hopes of having an extra few people at your meeting. The beginning of the semester is the best time to employ that excitement towards helping the community around you before papers and midterms bog us down.

Hip hip, HORRAY!

Growth:
Jerome A Johnson- Chairman
Andrew Bannister- member
Event Planning:
Emilee Lloyd- Chairman
Spirit:
Shannon Zeiders- Co-chairman
Alexander Cha- Co-chairman
Congratulations to all of these fine Subregion G members! We will be hearing more about these members throughout the year as we highlight them in blogs to come and let you know what each committee is up to!
Next, Congratulations to Jacqui Moskel for answering last weeks song trivia! She not only got all of the songs and artists correct, she also LOVES "We the Kings" which is an awesome band from my hometown in Bradenton, Fl!!! Jacqui is the Governor of the Carolina's district where she works hard to keep CKI members in the know about International happenings as well as communicate with District and Club Board members. She is also serving on the Service Committee as Better World Books Service Ambassador. Jacqui loves the show How I Met Your Mother which also happens to be my favorite show! Thanks Jacqui for keeping up with the news on "G"
I would like to have a meeting with the subregion on matters such as conference in the Subregion, the new committees and how we can all help each other with things going on. Please be looking out for an E-mail with a doodle survey to fill out to find a time that fits best for everyone. Beware of the date and PLEASE fill it out in Est time. I can't wait to chat with you all!
The Carolina's district is having their K-family Conference (KFC) the first weekend in November (5-7). This is an event where you can meet friends from all over in Key Club, Circle K, and Kiwanis! This is a great opportunity that I hope you all will consider attending. The registration is due this Saturday but the price is right and the weekend is unforgettable! Hope to see you there!
I hope you all are having a great week and I hope to chat with you all soon!

This is a fun one
Ok, Name that song and win big! Read these lyrics and name the song and artist. The first person that can get every song right, wins big!!! I mean like crazy spotlight and a special something that arrives in the mail!!! :) Let me see what you got!
"You can sound the alarm
you can call out your guards
you can fence in your yard
you can pull all the cards
but I won't back down"
"Run baby run
Don't ever look back
They'll tear us apart
If you give them the chance
Don't sell your heart
Don't say we're not meant to be
Run baby run
Forever will be
You and me"
"'Cause this is thriller, thriller night
And no one's gonna save you from the beast about strike
You know it's thriller, thriller night
You're fighting for your life inside a killer, thriller tonight"
Happy song finding!!!

Subregion Comittees!
Hello Subregion G! I hope that you have all been having a great week! This week's blog is ALL ABOUT COMMITTEES! We have been looking into getting some committees together in the subregion. I have E-mailed your Governors the application, so ask them to send it to you if they have not already! There are a few committees we have planned. They are:
Spirit and Morale:
This committee will be in charge of coming up with fun ways to keep us spirited! Some things that need to be done are: Design a T-shirt and collect T-shirt sizes and money from those that want one once a price has been established. Also, this committee will be making up chants and cheers to show our spirit at any event that we are represented at. Coming up with new and creative ways to unite us in spirit and keep us energized all year is another directive.
Growth:
This committee shall be responsible for helping clubs with the building and rebuilding process in their districts. The committee shall coordinate its efforts with those of the Lieutenant Governor of the division in which a club is being built and the Governor. This does not mean that you have to travel to a club and help them grow. This committee is to be able to help those in need by sharing experiences or the process on how to build a club. The members of this committee should know where the resources are to help build a club and possibly create your own for our subregion.
Event Planning:
It shall plan and execute the Subregion G event. This committee is in charge of finding a weekend that works for each district and plan projects and events to do during that weekend. You will also find a location and make promotional items for this event. This committee will also make a registration form to send out and make a budget to find the cost per member. Anything that deals with the event will lie in this committee’s hand
These committees may have other duties assigned to them as the year goes on but it is a fun way to keep the subregion together and above the rest! I will be with each committee every step of the way for any questions. Please take the time to fill these out and I can’t wait to get started on a great year of new, fun, innovative ideas!
APPLICATION DUE OCTOBER 3rd!

Board Trainer!
Hello Subregion G! I would just like to keep this entry short and say that this weekend I am at the International board trainer in Indianapolis, Indiana. I am very excited to be here because I now should be able to answer more of your questions and know exactly what I am doing.
I hope that you all had a great three day weekend as I know I did. If you are reading my blog, I would love for you to post one word to describe Subregion G! I hope that classes have been going well and I can't wait to learn new information to share with you in the up coming weeks. Make sure that you are checking the blog out, as next week we will be talking about committee positions in the Subregion and I will be working on applications! Have a great week and I will talk to you again soon!

recruit, Recruit, RECRUIT... Retain!
This week I would like to talk about recruiting and retaining members! It is very important to make sure our clubs are recruiting quality members! Here are some recruiting and retention tips learned at ICON from the Florida District Editor: Carl Fridh!
Some things to think about when recruiting:
-Body Language Speaks Too!- While tabling at an event, watch your body language too. Closing/crossing your arms may make you look disinterested.
-Be Organized!- Misplacing items will make you look bad in front of prospective members. Also, don’t be passive/inattentive when handing out flyers, stay alert!
-Avoid Acronyms– While CKI, DOTC, DCON, ICON, LSSP, etc. may be everyday talk to us. To a new face, they don’t know or really care about acronyms. Don’t overwhelm them.
-Target Your Audience– Some people in your audience may be interested in CKI for one reason or another. For a general audience, focus mainly on fellowship and service. For people that are more logical or into law, convince them with the leadership aspect.
-Go for Freshmen– A lot of CKI members have been in this organization since their first semester of school. Recruiting members at the start of their college careers may help them stick around longer. Work with Key Club seniors for even more results.
Retaining members is just as important and here is some ideas how:
-Make the first few meetings “social”- While decorum makes us professional, to a new person it makes our club look boring. Liven up the first few meetings of a semester shorter and more social with food or icebreakers.
-Be Interested!- Older members should hang out/sit near prospective members. Genuinely be interested in a new person’s well-being and be awesome around them.
-Hang Out with them Outside CKI– If you see a new member outside a meeting, try to hang out with them, make small talk. It will likely make them feel welcomed. Don’t overwhelm them about CKI though.
-If they come back, remember!- It’s really important to remember names of new people if they return for a second or third meeting. It makes them feel noticed and welcomed as well!
-Avoid Cliques!- Cliques can cause drama in the club and may intimidate new members as well. Be sure to include others.
-Open Up Leadership Opportunities– After a while, new members may want to help out. Club committee chairs are a great way to make opportunities.
I hope this helps! Let me know if you would like to see anything on the blog and please post comments!
